It’s 2018 and it Feels Good to Win!
Confession time. The second half of 2017 was not nice to me. I got robbed mid-international move, I was unemployed, and for some bizarre reason I got acne. Don’t get me wrong there were some awesome times too, like my trip to Tokyo, but I’m glad 2017 is over.

I moved into 2018 with a brand new attitude. An I’m done of giving f#$ks attitude. AND IT’S WORKING. For example, I gave up the perfectionist ideal I had in mind for my blog and just launched it. And the first month I was live I got nominated to for the Liebster New Blogger Award. Sure, I was nominated with 9 others. And yes, maybe the award is just a cheat to SEO back-links. But I’m counting this as a win, and it feels good to win!
Shout out to Mental Intrigue for the nomination!
I wouldn’t be writing this post today if it wasn’t for Aggie at Mental Intrigue. Aggie won the Liebster Award last month and paid it forward to me. She happened upon my blog through Facebook, and threw my hat in the ring. In order to receive the Liebster Award Abbie only asked that I answer the 10 questions below and nominate 5-10 more new bloggers.
The 10 Questions
Why did you choose to blog?
Blogging was an avenue I wanted to pursue for quite some time. BUT I didn’t really get around to it until found myself unemployed and with plenty of time to dedicate. I’m a pretty reserved person, so the idea of expressing my opinions without public speaking is something that called to me. I also hold a master’s degree in psychology, I’ve always had a desire to help people help themselves.

Do you write anything else besides your blog, and would you share?
Occasionally I write positive affirmations / mantras. After graduating college and entering the “real world” I was consumed with anxiety that I didn’t know how to manage. I’ve also been know to fall victim to CIPs (Coffee Induced Psychosis). Affirmations help me to find peace of mind.
I am happy to share my affirmations! I plan on creating a bunch of printables that remind you of life’s positives, and compliment your home or office.
What is your vision/plan for your current blog?
There are a lot of avenues I would like to pursue with my blog. My current plan is to create valuable content portrayed in a professional manner. My goal is to gain credibility with my readers. I want to help people adult with minimal breakdowns. And plan on doing so within a layout that doesn’t look like a myspace circa 2003. Long term I would love for my blog to be a means to attract freelance and life coaching clients.
If you had to choose a country to live, where would you want to be?
Japan! I recently took a vacation to Tokyo, and let me tell you – going to Tokyo is like time traveling to the future. Technology is abundant, the city is impressively clean, crime is low, and the countryside is beautiful. I’ve been lucky enough to travel to a good number of countries since graduating college. Japan is one of my favorites!
Do your family members/spouse know of your online presence? How do they feel about it?
My family is aware that I blog. They have all been very supportive of my entrepreneurial endeavors. As to whether they actually read my blog, I cannot say.
Shout out to my sister Dana for all her support. Dana and I have different degrees from different universities, but ironically both ended up working in IT. Even though we live on different sides of the country, our career paths have a lot of the same bumps in the road. Like me, she understands that sometimes you have to make your own opportunities. She has encouraged me every step of the way.
Name five states you visited and would like to explore more.
In the 10+ years since I graduated high school, I have lived in 4 states. Florida, Virginia, New York, and Colorado. And this is all before I met my husband, who’s in the Navy, and moved to Guam!
I’d love to visit Phoenix Arizona and San Diego, San Francisco, and Santa Barbara California. I’d also love to spend more time in Charleston South Carolina. If you haven’t been to Charleston but it on your bucket list and go!
What do you like to write about?
I’m not particularly concerned with fitting myself into a niche. I’ve learned that in life you should do things your own way. Maybe I’m just a rebel, but I’ve come to realize there are very few rules in life that you HAVE to follow.
The great thing about having your own blog is that you get to speak your truth! I try to share what is on my mind and what matters to me. Along with what I know my audience is interested in. For the time being that is adulting help for milsos / millennials and aspiring minimalists.
Your favorite author?
This definitely isn’t a topic I think about a lot. The author that poped into my head is Orson Scott Card. Hello SciFi! The Ender’s Game Trilogy is one that I grew up with. The series starts with Ender’s experience in galactic battle school, and moves forward into his adult life.
The series also features books written from the perspective of other characters, which I really wish JK Rolling would get on board with! Who wouldn’t want to read more about Snape’s traitorous relationships with Voldemort and Dumbledor.
How many languages do you speak or are learning?
I’m rather linguistically boring, I only speak English fluently. I studied Spanish for years and even lived in Costa Rica for a month, but I’m conversational at best. I’ve been known to bust out pretty proficient Spanish when I LITERALLY have no other means to communicate. But the rest of the time it’s more “Yo soy Americana” and “Donde esta el bano?”
Your favorite food, restaurant and time of the year?
My favorite food is my #whydidieatmylunch for tomorrow pasta. Please subscribe if your interested in the recipe, I plan to feature it in my first cooking blog post. It’s a vegetarian version of Kevin and Amanda’s Spicy Sausage Pasta and is entirely addictive. I try not to make it often because I will keep eating it until I feel sick. I have no self control when it comes to this dish.
My favorite local restaurant (here in Guam) is Mosa’s. Try their lamb Greek salad! I’d bet money that you’ll like it. A restaurant I really miss from the states is Newk’s. If you haven’t had their chicken salad sandwich you are missing out on one of life’s greatest pleasures.
My favorite season? Funny you should ask. I ended up living in Florida and Guam because my favorite season is summer. But 8 months into the endless summer of 2017 (which is how I now refer to three my year tour on Guam) and I’m wishing it would turn to fall. Winter is coming! But unfortunately it won’t be coming for me until late 2020.
